- Instant Notifications and Operating System
The new Ticwatch S2 doesn’t have the most outstanding design, but it’s a lot better than its predecessor. It has a rugged and bold design yet stylish. It looks more like a smartwatch you could wear during sporting events. It’s designed with lightweight materials, polycarbonate casing, and silicon straps. It’s good to know that the straps can be changed with 22mm in width straps, unlike its predecessor which had GPS built into the strap which rendered it irreplaceable.
The polycarbonate casing extends to the bezel which has an Arabic numeral engraved on it. It would have been better if the bezel is rotatable just like the Samsung Galaxy Watch.
The display of Ticwatch S2 is great, it uses AMOLED which results in a better viewing angle, however, it’s not so easily readable under sunlight. It supports touchscreen and has a finely designed button by the side which makes navigating the interface easier.
The Ticwatch S2 comes with lots of preloaded watch faces to choose from or download one from the app store. It is currently available in black color, but also comes in white color which is currently not available as of the time of writing post.
Ticwatch S2 received a battery life boost, it uses a lithium-ion battery with a 415mAh capacity. On mixed usage, you should get up to 2 days or more battery life. It’s not the best of battery life, but this is great and better than its predecessor. It’s enough to see you through your workout session and if you decide to go on a short holiday, the Ticwatch S2 should see you through the weekend.
Ticwatch S2 has a 5ATM waterproof rating making it water-resistant up to 50 meters. It’s good to see the S2 join the leagues of smartwatches that are swim-proof. You can wear the watch under rain or to the shower and if you choose to go swimming with, it would be just fine.
Ticwatch S2 is also rated MIL-STD-810G for US military standard durability test. This makes the S2 a rugged smartwatch that can withstand tough conditions. Ticwatch S2 can survive temperature shock between -30 degrees to 70 degrees Celsius and remains functional between -20 degrees – 55 degrees Celsius. It’s no doubt a fantastic choice for explorers and adventure seekers.
Ticwatch S2 has onboard storage space that lets you store files directly on the watch. It comes with about 4GB ROM out of which about 2GB is available for storing your data and files. 512MB RAM supports the smooth operation of the watch. It also has a microphone and loudspeaker by the side which means you can answer calls directly from the S2 or access voice command features via Google assistant which is now more comprehensive and helpful.
Ticwatch S2 just like its predecessor is still fitness-focused, but it’s even better now as it comes with TicMotion, an invisible technology that proactively tracks your activities without you needing to activate anything. It goes beyond just counting steps or calculating calories. TicMotion is powered by Mobvoi’s innovative AI algorithms that maximize your smart wearable capabilities and seamlessly integrates with your life.
The S2 automatically recognizes and tracks steps, distance, calories, and complete sleep tracking. 6 preloaded sport modes are available to choose from; outdoor run, outdoor walk, indoor run, cycling, freestyle and pool swim. Mobvoi had stated they would add more fitness tracking features in future updates.
Tracking your swimming activities is a lot better with Ticwatch S2 as its better equipped with State of the art machine learning algorithm that is able to differentiate your stroke type and count your laps and strokes seamlessly while you are swimming. All your key performance metrics such as lap time, speed, Swim Golf (SWOLF) will be recorded and generated right after you finish your swim.
Activities Ticwatch S2 can track includes;
Ticwatch S2 is smart enough to keep you connected with notifications from your phone. It syncs effortlessly with compatible phones and alerts you when there is an incoming call, SMS, email or other notifications from both third-party and native applications on your phone.
It has WiFi which keeps you connected even when your phone is not near. This is actually great, especially while working out and it becomes quite uncomfortable to carry your phone in your pocket.
Ticwatch S2 is compatible with both Android 4.4 or later and iOS 9.3 or later. It runs on Wear OS 2.2 which means you have access to more apps. It is important to note that Wear OS is a lot better than what it was just 9 months ago. One of the new features is the notification stream lets you see more notifications at a glance.
Unfortunately, Ticwatch S2 is powered by Qualcomm’s outdated Snapdragon 2100 chip. The newer 3100 chip would have been better.
