It’s their most advanced smartwatch and alongside it, is the Suunto 9. Both are fitness smartwatches with classic design, making them suitable for both sides of the world; in the gym/trail or the office.
The Suunto 9 Baro is not your regular kind of smartwatch, its highly fitness focused, but lacks some of the regular essentials you’ll find on most smartwatches such as NFC, WIFI, onboard music storage and microphone. The Difference Between the Suunto 9 and 9 Baro
The Suunto 9 with a barometer gives you more accurate altitude information because it combines GPS data with barometric altitude information (FusedAlti™). Based on data from the barometer, it also provides outdoor information like sea level air pressure and has a storm alarm. The other Suunto 9 models still deliver altitude information, but they are based on GPS readings.
Suunto 9 Baro Features
- Premium Design and Nice Display
- Waterproof Rating
- Impressive Battery Life
- Activity/Fitness Tracking
The Suunto 9 Baro has one of the most fascinating designs I have seen recently. It looks gorgeous in that classic design, although fitness-focused. It’s durable by every definition, considering the glass fiber reinforced polyamide. A similar technology used in building the body of airplanes (glass and aluminum). On the bezel, we have a titanium grade 5 material that is stronger and lighter than stainless steel used on many other smartwatches. The titanium bezel adds the premium tag as well a classic appearance, while the silicone straps are interchangeable, unlike its predecessor.
There’s no difficulty reading the display outdoor, it’s powered by Matrix – a type of LCD display that also offers great picture quality. Navigating the device is also a bliss with support for touchscreen in addition to three physical buttons. The touchscreen and the buttons can be locked which comes handy when you exercising.
The Suunto 9 Baro is a great bargain considering its classic design even while having silicone straps that make it a perfect fit for the gym, trails or the office. By swapping that strap to say leather, you get a real watch that’s stylish and elegant.
The Suunto 9 Baro is rated 10ATM which makes it water-resistant up to 100 meters. You can wear it under the rain, to the pool or ocean and it will still be great. It also has a robust swim-tracking feature which makes it a great choice for tracking your swims.
Smartwatch manufacturers are going innovational in their quest to improve the disappointing battery life of the modern-day smartwatch. The Suunto 9 Baro tackles this issue in a highly constructive manner that conserves battery life even much longer allowing you go long on a single charge.
The Sunnto 9 Baro features three predefined battery modes; performance, endurance and ultra modes which deliver from 25 hours to up to 120 hours of recording time with GPS tracking on. When you start a recording, you’ll get an estimate of how much battery you have left with the current mode. If it’s not enough, you can switch to another mode at any time.
This is one feature, avid adventures will find very useful.
Where the Suunto 9 Baro shines most is in its fitness tracking capabilities. It can track quite a lot of activities. It’s also good to know that the 9 Baro is a rugged timepiece that allows you to focus on achieving more goals.
From the basic to the advance, the Suunto 9 Baro can track your steps, distances, sleep, heart rate, calories, coupled with the multi GPS navigation feature that makes it a perfect fit for outdoor tracking too.
There’s also the Suunto unique FusedTrack™ algorithm which combines GPS and motion sensor data to improve track and distance accuracy. This allows you to extend battery life by lowering GPS power without significantly compromising accuracy.
The Suunto 9 Baro unlike the Suunto 9 gives accurate altitude information because it combines GPS data with barometric altitude information (FusedAlti™). Based on data from the barometer, it also provides outdoor information like sea level air pressure and has a storm alarm.
The Suunto 9 Baro supports about 80 sport modes which include;
- Trail running
Recorded stats are stored in the Suunto App where you can view all tracked data at a glance in the most fashionable way. The Suunto 9 Baro is also compatible with online sport communities such as Strava, MapMyFitness and more. Suunto offers free upfront subscription for 2 months when you order the Suunto 9 Baro.
The Suunto 9 Baro connects to compatible devices via Bluetooth smart, when successfully paired, it syncs notifications from your phone so you never get to miss important updates. Unfortunately the Suunto 9 Baro lacks NFC, you won’t be able to make payments from this device.
