Samsung Galaxy Watch Active 2 vs Fossil Gen 5 vs Fitbit Versa 2 Features Compared

  • Design

  • No doubt, these three watches are some of the finest you’ll find on the market. Each of these, looks classy and elegant as well. Although, the Active 2 with the least thickness size and innovative digital rotating bezel has a slight more sophisticated design.

  • Storage/Media

  • With the Gen 5 Calyle, you get twice the storage capacity of the Versa 2 or Active 2 which means you get to take more of your media files with you. In addition, it also has the highest RAM size which is very crucial for a Wear OS smartwatch, and being powered by the Snapdragon 3100 chip, it sure does improve performance significantly.

Versa 2 lacks a loudspeaker which is present on both the Active 2 and Gen 5, this allows you to play your media files anywhere, and as well adds more productivity to the respective voice assistant features of these two.

Moreover, you can initiate and as well take calls with Gen 5 once it’s connected to your phone Bluetooth (Android and iOS devices) which adds more convenience when you need it. The Active 2 being a standalone smartwatch will call and as well allow you to answer calls directly from the device independently.

  • Cellular Connectivity

  • The Active 2 comes in two versions; stainless steel and aluminum, the stainless steel version ships with nano-SIM which supports cellular connectivity, and that makes it a standalone smartwatch that allows you make and answer calls directly from the watch. It keeps you connected even when your phone is not nearby.

This feature is not available on the Gen 5 nor Versa 2.

  • Fitness Tracking

  • Activity tracking is at the core of most of the latest smartwatches, and these three are no exception. Each of these three is well equipped with all the standard sensors you’ll expect to find on a standard smartwatch.

Fitness tracking features are packaged in different formats, while the Active 2 offers a whopping 39 sport modes with the ability to auto-track 7 of those, the Versa 2 features 15 sport modes and more, in addition to onscreen workout that can coach you through some of your favorite moves to help you achieve greater fitness goals, although you’ll have to pay for this feature. A nice alternative that’ll save you some money is the Garmin Vivoactive 4 series that offers onscreen animated sport modes.

  • Battery Life

Wear OS smartwatches have faced lots of setback with abysmal battery life which is most times attributed to the outdated 2100 chip that powers the vast majority of these watches, but there has been a significant improvement with the release of the Snapdragon 3100 chip which sees the Gen 5 feature custom battery modes that can help you manage the battery life to keep you going for a little longer.

But despite the significant improvement in the battery life of the Gen 5, it still has a shorter battery life compared to the Active 2 with about 2 days battery life and Versa 2 with about 5 days long battery life on mixed usage.

Which Should You Buy?

No doubt, any of these three will make a fantastic choice if you’re looking for a decent smartwatch with modern technology that can help improve your fitness level and overall productivity while also being a perfect match for any occasion.

However, Active 2 with the most stylish and classy appearance is certainly a more prestigious wear, followed up by Gen 5 with a classic watch appearance. The Active 2 being a standalone smartwatch is also a more comprehensive device than both the Gen 5 and Versa 2.

On the other hand, the Versa 2 is a slight cheaper smartwatch than both the Gen 5 and Active 2, yet great quality, remarkable decent design and also a comprehensive activity tracker while having a quite impressive long battery life. It’s actually a great choice if you’re looking for a nice fitness smartwatch, but in terms of design, I’ll go with either the Gen 5 or Active 2.

Our Pick

I’ll go with the Samsung Galaxy Active 2, it’s such a beautiful timepiece with a remarkable design, lots of features and a quite impressive long battery life.
