Samsung Galaxy Watch Active 2 Features
- Premium and Charming Design
- Water Resistance Rating
- Cellular Connectivity
- Activity/Fitness Tracking
The Galaxy Active 2 has a wider display than its predecessor. It comes in two sizes; 44mm and 40mm with the former having a 1.4 inches display that lets you see more, while the latter has a smaller 1.2 inches display that’s still wider than the Active.
Super AMOLED powers the display which is very interactive and lively to watch. Its touch supported plus two buttons by the sides to aid navigation.
But Samsung has reintroduced the bezel we saw in the Galaxy Watch and Gear S3 models. Only that this time instead of a physical bezel, it’s a digital bezel which is very much innovative and will make navigating the Active 2 easier.
Corning Gorilla Glass DX+ still covers the display just like its predecessor and as expected will make the Active 2 withstand accidental knocks, scratch-resistant and certainly a more durable watch.
The Galaxy watch active 2 is very slim, although slightly thicker than its predecessor 10.5mm. But it’s still very slim when compared to the industry average of 12mm. Samsung did well to reduce the weight.
Active 2 is lightweight and is comfortable to wear all day long, although the stainless steel model is slightly heavier than the aluminum model.
The stainless steel model comes in three colors; silver, black, and gold, and has 20mm leather straps that are interchangeable. While the aluminum model comes in cloud silver, aqua black and pink silver, and has 20mm fluoroelastomer straps.
The watch face is interchangeable, you can choose from the many available ones. Moreover, Samsung has added My Style1 color extraction algorithm – a new feature that’s available in the Galaxy Wearable app that simply allows you take a photo of your outfit, you can choose from five different color patterns and your watch face changes in seconds. This feature is only supported on Android devices.
It’s pertinent to say that the smaller aluminum model without LTE support is a better choice for the gym, while the bigger stainless model with LTE supported is your perfect match for official outings
There’ll be a limited Under Armour edition that can enhance your fitness experience. It offers a 6months MapMyRun MVP service and limited UA watch face to get you off on the right foot.
The Active 2 has 4GB storage capacity that allows you to take your favorite files with you, although below our expectation. It also has 1.5GB RAM for the LTE version and 0.75GB for the aluminum non-LTE version.
Samsung has added some more apps on Active 2 like the social engagement apps which allows you like posts, share a post, and even a YouTube app that lets you watch videos directly on Active 2.
Active 2 has a 5ATM waterproof rating which means water-resistant up to 50 meters. So, its swim-proof, you can wear it to the shower, under the rain, or perhaps to the pool. However, you shouldn’t subject it to high pressure such as diving as this could damage the device.
More Than a Day Battery Life
The smaller 40mm has a smaller 247mAh battery capacity while the 44mm has a bigger 340mAh capacity which Samsung has stated will last over a day.
Since nothing has changed in the engine department as it’s the same chip with the same processor speed as its predecessor, we expect the Active 2 to have just about the same battery life as the Active. Although the LTE edition won’t last as long as the aluminum version.
Charging the Active 2 is very easy as it comes with a wireless magnetic charging dock that allows you to simply place it on the dock.
You can also use Wireless PowerShare on your Galaxy smartphone to charge your smartwatch in an easy and intuitive way
Samsung has added cellular connectivity feature to the Active 2 with LTE support. Only the stainless steel model has the LTE functionality which the aluminum model lacks. This’ll allow you to make and receive calls anywhere there is network coverage with a supported network provider.
Samsung had stated that the Galaxy Watch Active2 LTE edition will be available at AT&T, Sprint, T-Mobile, US Cellular and Verizon starting September 27, 2019
Active 2 is a comprehensive fitness tracker with quite a lot of new fitness tracking additions. Just like its predecessor, Active 2 is well equipped to track your active life. But it has more features that include improved heart rate sensor, the addition of swimming to the auto-track feature with new running programs, and ECG tracking. This of course makes it a comprehensive fitness tracker.
With a curved design back, the Active 2 improved 8 photodiodes sit well in contact with your skin to give you a more accurate reading that can help you know when to tone the exercise up or down.
The Active was able to auto-track 6 activities out of the 39 preloaded sport modes, but the new Active 2 is able to auto-detect and track 7 of those 39 with swimming added. Auto tracked activities include running, walking, cycling indoor or outdoor, elliptical, rowing, and dynamic workout, while the remaining are manually activated.
Running programs have also been added which can help you manage your running pace in realtime.
With ECG tracking on the Active 2 you can take ECG test right from your wrist this can help you detect atrial fibrillation, a form of irregular heart rhythm.
Active 2 can also help you manage stress, sleep quality, and many more.
Active 2 with Bluetooth and WiFi is well equipped to keep you connected to all that matters to you. It’s compatible with both Android and iOS devices which when successfully connected will notify you when there’s a new notification on your phone.
NFC is on board to support Samsung pay – a contactless payment system that lets you make a payment on the go right from the Active 2.
You can as well use the Active 2 to control features on your Galaxy phone like control the camera, take pictures or record a video.
