Galaxy Watch 4 Classic – What’s New?

  1. Galaxy Watch 4 Classic runs on the new Wear OS/Tizen that will give you access to more of your favorite apps.
  2. Galaxy Watch 4 Classic comes with the new Exynos W920 chip that promises better performance alongside a higher 1.5GB RAM.
  3. Galaxy Watch 4 Classic has a massive 16GB storage capacity.
  4. Galaxy Watch 4 Classic is slightly more compact and weighs a little less than its predecessor, the Galaxy Watch 3.

Galaxy Watch 4 Classic Design – Premium Design

There has not been any significant change in the design of the Galaxy Watch 4 Classic, although there are slight differences here and there. It has the same circular shape as Galaxy Watch 3. It also comes with a physical rotating bezel – one of my best features.

Just like previous Samsung smartwatches, the Galaxy Watch 4 Classic comes in two sizes; 42mm and 46mm. The 42mm has a dimension of 41.5 x 41.5 x 11.2mm and weighs 47grams. The 46mm has a dimension of 45.5 x 45.5 x 11mm and weighs 52 grams which are slightly less than the weight of its predecessor.

The case is made of stainless steel material, the bezel is also made of stainless steel while the straps come in a fluoroelastomer material which is interchangeable. The 42mm is compatible with 20mm straps while the 46mm is compatible with 22mm wide straps. Corning Gorilla Glass DX protects the display while both the 46mm and 42mm are rated 5ATM which is equivalent to 50 meters depth waterproof rating.

Both 42mm and 46mm sizes of Galaxy Watch 4 come in two colors; black and silver colors.
In all, the Galaxy Watch 4 Classic is a beauty to behold. It’s classy and stylish, and also very durable and sturdy. It’s a premium smartwatch!

Display – Super AMOLED Powers the Display

The 42mm size has a display size of 1.2 inches with a 396×396 pixels while the 46mm size has a 1.4 inches display size with 450×450 pixels. The same Super AMOLED powering older Samsung smartwatches still powers the display of Galaxy Watch 4 Classic.

Navigation is via touchscreen, 2 physical buttons and the physical rotating bezel. I’m personally happy to see the rotating bezel is present, it indeed makes navigation very easy.

Fitness and Health Tracking – Body Composition Measurement Added

All Samsung smartwatches are fitness-focus and the Galaxy Watch 4 Classic and Galaxy Watch 4 are continuing that trend. In fact, Samsung has taken it a step further by introducing the new Bioelectrical Impedance Analysis (BIA) – A feature that allows you to measure your body composition such as body fat, body water, BMI, and skeletal muscle.
An advanced feature like Spo2 blood oxygen tracking is also present as well as ECG tracking and Blood pressure monitoring. These two will need to be calibrated before use.

The Galaxy Watch 4 Classic will track all the basics like your steps, calories, sleep, heart rate, floors climbed, and stress.

It comes with an inbuilt GPS that will allow you to track outdoor activities like your routes and locations. It features 96 preset sport modes and can auto-detect and track select activities. Incidental fall detection and SOS emergency features are also present. In short, Galaxy Watch 4 Classic is a fitness beast!

Music Storage and Voice Assistant

Another upgrade is the 16GB onboard storage capacity that will allow you to take more of your tracks with you. Even better is that you will now get access to more popular music services, thanks to the move back to Wear OS. It has a loudspeaker that will allow you to play music aloud, or you can connect to a Bluetooth headphone. There is also a microphone that will allow you to use your voice to do simple tasks. Running on Wear OS, you get access to Google Assistant as well as Samsung’s Bixby just like you have it with Versa 3.

Platform – Wear OS/Tizen Gives you access to more apps

Perhaps one of the biggest changes for the Galaxy Watch 4 and Galaxy Watch 4 Classic is the move to the Wear operating system. Tizen was no doubt a wonderful OS, however suffered great limitations to apps. With Wear OS 3, you’ll get access to more apps.

Cellular Connectivity – The LTE Model is a Standalone Smartwatch

Like I mentioned earlier, the Galaxy Watch 4 Classic comes in two models. Both 42mm and 46mm sizes come in Bluetooth/WiFi and LTE models. The LTE model is a standalone smartwatch. This means that it has cellular capabilities that allow it to make and receive calls independent of a smartphone. It will also be able to stream music and receive messages independently. The Bluetooth model requires you to carry your phone along to be able to make and receive calls.

Be sure to check the LTE model supported in your region and the supported carriers.

Managing SMS, Calls, and App Notifications

The Galaxy Watch 4 Classic can help you manage notifications received on your phone. You can enable apps you want to receive notifications from and from the Galaxy Watch 4 Classic you can reply to notifications with your voice, text or preset replies.

Battery Life – No Improvement Yet

The 46mm size of Galaxy Watch 4 Classic has a battery capacity of 361mAh, while the 42mm has a 247mAh battery capacity. This is not different from that of Galaxy Watch 3. So, you shouldn’t expect a battery life of more than two days. Don’t worry, I’ll update this once I have the Galaxy Watch 4 Classic.

  • A premium and rugged smartwatch.
  • A comprehensive fitness tracker.
  • 16GB massive onboard music storage.
  • Wear OS gives you access to more apps.
  • Awesome performnace with Exynos w920.

  • Not compartible with iOS phones.
  • Watch band is rather crappy.
  • ECG and Blood pressure monitoring work at most with only Samsung smartphones.
  • Battery life is abysmal.
