Galaxy Watch 4 Design – Premium Design

There has not been any significant change in the design of Galaxy Watch 4, although there are slight differences here and there. It has the same circular shape as Galaxy Watch Active 2. It also comes with a digital rotating bezel for easy navigation.

Just like previous Samsung smartwatches, the Galaxy Watch 4 comes in two sizes; 40mm and 44mm. The 40mm has a dimension of 40.4 x 39.3 x 9.8mm and weighs 27grams. The 44mm has a dimension of 44.4 x 43.3 x 9.8mm and weighs 30 grams which are slightly less than the weight of its predecessor.

The case is made of armor aluminum material, while the straps come in a fluoroelastomer or hybrid leather material which are interchangeable. The 40mm is compatible with 20mm straps while the 44mm is compatible with 22mm wide straps. The new 2D Corning Gorilla Glass DX glass protects the display while both the 44mm and 40mm are rated 5ATM which is equivalent to 50 meters depth waterproof rating.

Galaxy Watch 4 (40mm) – Color variants
Both 40mm come in three colors, black, silver, and pink-gold, while the 44mm also comes in three colors, black, silver, and green.
Galaxy Watch 4 (44mm) – Color variants

In all, the Galaxy Watch 4 is a beauty to behold. Its classy, compact, stylish, and also very durable and sturdy. It’s a premium smartwatch!

Display – Super AMOLED Powers the Display

The 40mm size has a display size of 1.2 inches with 396×396 pixels while the 44mm size has a 1.4 inches display size with 450×450 pixels. The same Super AMOLED powering older Samsung smartwatches still powers the display of Galaxy Watch 4 which is very colorful and easy to read both indoors and outdoors.
Navigation is via touchscreen, 2 physical buttons, and the digital rotating bezel.

Fitness and Health Tracking – Body Composition Measurement Added

All Samsung smartwatches are fitness-focus and the Galaxy Watch 4 Classic and Galaxy Watch 4 are continuing that trend. In fact, Samsung has taken it a step further by introducing the new Bioelectrical Impedance Analysis (BIA) – A feature that allows you to measure your body composition such as body fat, body water, BMI, and skeletal muscle.
An advanced feature like Spo2 blood oxygen tracking is also present as well as ECG tracking and Blood pressure monitoring. These two will need to be calibrated before use.

The Galaxy Watch 4 will track all the basics like your steps, calories, sleep, heart rate, floors climbed, and stress.

It comes with an inbuilt GPS that will allow you to track outdoor activities like your routes and locations. It features 96 preset sport modes and can auto-detect and track select activities. Incidental fall detection and SOS emergency features are also present. In short, Galaxy Watch 4 is a fitness beast!

Music Storage and Voice Assistant

Another upgrade is the 16GB onboard storage capacity that will allow you to take more of your tracks with you. Even better is that you will now get access to more popular music services, thanks to the move back to Wear OS. It has a loudspeaker that will allow you to play music aloud, or you can connect a Bluetooth headphone. There is also a microphone that will allow you to use your voice to do simple tasks. Running on Wear OS, you get access to Google Assistant as well as Samsung’s Bixby just like you have it with Versa 3.

Platform – Wear OS/Tizen Gives you access to more apps

Perhaps one of the biggest changes for the Galaxy Watch 4 and Galaxy Watch 4 Classic is the move to the Wear operating system. Tizen was no doubt a wonderful OS, however suffered great limitations to apps. With Wear OS 3, you’ll get access to more apps.

Cellular Connectivity – The LTE Model is a Standalone Smartwatch

Like I mentioned earlier, the Galaxy Watch 4 comes in two models. Both 40mm and 44mm sizes come in Bluetooth/WiFi and LTE models. The LTE model is a standalone smartwatch. This means that it has cellular capabilities that allow it to make and receive calls independent of a smartphone. It will also be able to stream music and receive messages independently. The Bluetooth model requires you to carry your phone along to be able to make and receive calls, receive messages, or install apps.

Be sure to check the Galaxy Watch 4 LTE model supported in your region and the supported carriers.

Managing SMS, Calls, and App Notifications

The Galaxy Watch 4 can help you manage notifications received on your phone. You can enable apps you want to receive notifications from and from the Galaxy Watch 4 you can reply to notifications with your voice, text, or preset replies.

Battery Life – No Improvement Yet

The 44mm size of Galaxy Watch 4 has a battery capacity of 361mAh, while the 40mm has a 247mAh battery capacity. This is not different from that of Galaxy Watch Active 2. So, you shouldn’t expect a battery life of more than two days with the 44mm, while the 40mm can go up to a day or more depending on individual usage.

Pros

  • Very compact, premium and classy design.
  • A comprehensive fitness tracker.
  • 16GB massive onboard music storage.
  • Wear OS gives you access to more apps.
  • Awesome performnace with Exynos w920.
