Huawei watch GT vs Watch 2 vs Watch 2 Classic Features Compared

  • Design
  • Huawei Watch GT stands out amongst the three smartwatches with the most outstanding elegant design. It looks bold, classic and off-course features a more bigger screen size that lets you see more at a glance. Besides that, the Watch GT is made of more durable materials; stainless steel, ceramic bezel, and leather/silicon straps compared to the thermoplastic used for watch 2 and thermoplastic/stainless steel used in watch 2 Classic.

The Watch GT is much slimmer, measures only 10.6mm compared to the 12.6mm of both watch 2 and the Watch 2 Classic.

  • Connectivity
  • The watch 2 and watch 2 classic have a wifi and NFC functionality which is lacking on the watch GT. So the GT doesn’t support any payment system, quiet a very needful feature. Similarly, with the watch GT, you will rely only on Bluetooth to connect with nearby devices as there is no WI-Fi.

  • Cellular Network
  • The watch 2 is the only smartwatch amongst the three that supports 4G network technology, thus a standalone smartwatch that lets you make calls directly from the device.

  • Water Resistance
  • The Watch GT is the more preferred choice as far as water resistance is concerned. It is rated 5ATM while the watch 2 and classic are both rated IP68. This means while you can’t wear the watch 2 and classic to the pool or ocean, the Watch GT will blaze through the pool allowing you to track your swimming activities plus a new SWOF feature that gives you a summary after a swimming event.

  • Battery
  • Again the watch GT beats the watch 2 and the classic when it comes to long-lasting battery. The watch GT comes with a double chip-set architecture a relatively new technology that improves battery efficiency. The watch GT boosts of about 2 weeks battery life on standby which lets you go longer on a single charge.

  • Media
  • The watch 2 and the classic have an edge over the watch GT when it comes to on-board storage space. The Watch GT has only 128MB onboard storage space compared to the 4GB found on the watch 2 and classic. This means you can’t store and listen to your favorite tracks on the go. A feature that comes handy when working out or perhaps just recreating. On the hand operation on the watch 2 and classic are faster as they both have a higher RAM size of 768MB compared to 16MB of the Watch GT. Though the difference might not be that obvious considering the additional features on the Watch 2 and Watch 2 classic.

  • Operating system

A major difference is that the new watch GT doesn’t run on Google wear OS unlike the watch 2 and classic which both run on Google wear OS. There is still a debate which is better between proprietary OS and Wear OS which powers a vast majority of smartwatches. Samsung has gotten a whole lot right with its Tizen operating system. However, Google just redesigned the Wear OS which features some interesting features that enhance user’s experience to a great extent. One thing you have to know is that with Wear OS the options to choose from are vast. The redesign Wear OS 2.1 host lots of interesting features amazing user experiences such as the ability to install apps and the versatility/access to your favorite apps.

Verdict

The new Huawei Watch GT offers a larger display that lets you see more at a glance plus its stunning classic appearance. However, going by more features the GT lags. First, there is no NFC, Wi-Fi. Secondly, the internal storage space is very small.

Huawei Watch GT features a more advance activity tracking technology that tracks activities more accurately. Moreover, it features more activity tracking features than Watch 2 Sport and Classic.

It’s quite a difficult choice to make from these three smartwatches. Well, based on design and the best for fitness tracking the watch GT is the best choice, however, if you are concerned about more features then go for the watch 2.

So, overall for a better design, longer battery life and more accurate fitness tracking stats go for Huawei watch GT otherwise for more features go for Watch 2 or watch 2 classic.
