Garmin Fenix 5X Plus Features
- Premium Design and Nice Display
- Impressive Battery Life
- Massive Storage Space
- Waterproof Rating
- Activity/Fitness Tracking
The Garmin Fenix 5X Plus has an outstanding design, it features a stainless steel case that is not too bulky at 51mm while the straps come in silicone which is also available in stainless steel or suede. The 26 mm straps are interchangeable which allows you to define your style for every occasion.
The 5X Plus is also available in DLC titanium bezel and straps which is stronger and lighter than stainless steel but will cost you more, about $100.
On the display, is the full-color Garmin Chroma Display™ with LED backlighting that assures great readability in all ambient conditions. Chroma display is quite outstanding, although not as rich and interactive when compared to AMOLED, but it’s very bright and can easily be read outdoors offering such great comfort and convenience when you need to catch a glaze while working out.
The screen of the 5X Plus features domed sapphire crystal glass that’s scratch-resistant, very strong and one of the strongest materials in the industry. It is available in black and silver.
The watch face of the 5X Plus can be changed, you can choose from preloaded watch faces or download one from the Connect IQ Store which has a huge list of available watch faces.
The battery life of the 5X Plus is quite impressive, it surpasses our expectations for a smartwatch with so many features. Perhaps could be attributed to the display which consumes less power compared to AMOLED.
The 5X Plus on Smartwatch mode has Up to 20 days of battery life, while with GPS active, it’s Up to 32 hours. With GPS and Music on, it’s Up to 13 hours and on UltraTrac mode, it’s Up to 70 hours. These figures will vary among users.
The Fenix 5X Plus comes with 16GB massive ROM for downloads and installations. This should be enough to contain all your favorite tracks which you can listen to via a Bluetooth enabled earbud on the go while working out, while at work or just recreating.
With 10ATM water-resistant rating, the 5X Plus is water-resistant up to 100 meters. You can wear it to the pool or ocean while swimming and in addition to the swim-tracking features makes it a great deal for professional and avid swimmers who like to track their activities while swimming.
While you can wear the 5X Plus to the shower, to the pool or ocean, it’s not recommended to dive with it as this will subject the watch to a pressure that might cause it to act funny.
The highlights of the 5X Plus is the huge activity tracking features in one watch. With support for a multi GPS satellite system that features a full-color TOPO mapping that comes preloaded with map data optimized for at-a-glance navigation and location tracking.
The TOPO maps feature Trendline popularity routing which uses billions of miles of Garmin Connect™ data to help you find and follow the best trails and routes. Very helpful when you’re away from your home, this feature lets you quickly see the most-used, locally validated pathways. These make the 5X Plus a great choice for adventurous activities.
Also onboard, are essential sensors, including a heart rate sensor and an exceptional pulse oximeter that tracks blood oxygen level – important metrics in fitness tracking.
With support for three GPS satellite systems makes 5X Plus a great choice for navigating even the most difficult terrains and in addition are a combination of altimeter, barometer, and compass.
The altimeter provides elevation data to accurately monitor ascent and descent for activities such as hiking, while the tilt-compensated three-axis electronic compass keeps your bearing — whether you’re moving or not. Sport modes the 5X Plus can track includes;
- Trail running
…and even more activities.
With Bluetooth, ANT+, and Wi-Fi onboard, the 5X Plus is a great companion for your phone that can help you stay connected to what matters to you. When connected to a compatible device, the 5X Plus alerts you when there is a new notification on your phone from both third-party and native apps on your phone.
Although it doesn’t have a microphone either a loudspeaker, you can respond to text messages (only on Android devices).
The 5X Plus also comes with an NFC chip onboard that supports Garmin pay which allows you make payments on the go from the watch.
