Casio Pro Trek WSD-F20 Features
- Design and Display
- Impressive Battery Life
- Waterproof Rating
- Activity Tracking
The Casio WSD-F20 is a rugged smartwatch with a spectacular design that looks both stylish and elegant. It’s not the most stylish of them all, but certainly a smartwatch with a design befitting of its purpose. For an outdoor smartwatch, it’s rugged and has just the perfect design.
The WSD-F20 is housed in a resin case same with the straps and bezel. Resin is a regular material used for most modern gadgets and its one of the most durable materials. Although quite bulky, the size and design of the WSD-F20 makes it a great choice for men.
The Casio WSD-F20 series is outstanding for its innovational display, it features a dual-display; a monochrome LCD display that sees the battery life extended to over a week and a second colored TFT LCD display with high resolution rendering a rich display that’s very interactive. With the monochrome LCD display, the display is far more visible under direct sunlight compared to the TFT colored display. It’s a great advantage that puts the WSD-F20 on the high-end clique.
The WSD-F20 is available in black and orange colors, the black color for me looks more adorable. There are quite a handful of really interesting watch faces available to choose from. Each of these watch faces is able to display quite a number of complications that include routes you take, locations and distances even while still displaying all other basic complications.
The battery life of the WSD-F20 is impressive. As a result of the dual display, the battery life can be extended depending on usage. Casio states that with GPS on for about 6hrs, the battery life is expected to last 18 hrs while on moderate usage, it should last about a day.
However, with time-only mode activated, the battery life is expected to last up to four weeks. This is quite impressive, it’s almost the same feature as seen on the Ticwatch pro which is getting the updated Google Fit that minimizes battery consumption with GPS active.
The Casio WSD-F20 is equipped with Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, and an inbuilt GPS satellite system. It’s compatible with both Android and iOS devices. The duo of Wi-Fi and Bluetooth ensure you stay connected even when you aren’t with your phone.
The inbuilt GPS system supports three satellite systems; the American GPS, Russian GLONASS and Japanese Michibiki, these three ensures you can navigate the most difficult terrains with accurate location and position coordinates determined based on positioning information received from GPS satellites and displayed on a high-resolution full-color map on the watch that can be accessed both online and offline.
The Casio WSD-F20 comes with 4GB onboard storage space out of which about 2.5GB is available for your installations and files download. In addition, is a microphone that lets you answer calls from the WSD-F20 making it a convenient choice.
The Casio WSD-F20 is also rugged and tough, rated MIL-STD-810G makes it a rugged smartwatch ready for even tougher conditions. This sees the Casio WSD-F20 survive harsher conditions making it a perfect choice for adventurous activities that involves weather extremities.
The Casio WSD-F20 is a great choice for keeping a tab on your activities. It houses an accelerometer, gyroscope, magnetometer, inbuilt GPS and an altimeter, all collectively can track a whole lot of activities like steps, altitude levels, distance, swimming, surfing, cycling and a number of other sports activities. Unfortunately, the WSD-F20 lacks a heart rate sensor, you won’t be able to track your heart rate with these devices.
The inbuilt GPS support three satellite systems; GPS, GLONASS, and Michibiki with a full-color map and offline map support. You can download a map beforehand for your next adventure which you can access without network connectivity.
There are quite some advance sports apps supported, these includes;
- Swimpro – Records and analyzes various log data items from swimming, such as number of strokes, lap time, and distance.
- ViewRanger – A GPS app for outdoor adventurers providing route information, navigation guidance, location data and distance to next waypoint all at a glance.
- MyRadar – A real-time weather app shows local animated weather maps, helping the user to easily and quickly track weather changes nearby.
- Bikemap – has over 3.4M bike routes in 80+ countries worldwide. Discover beautiful cycling regions for your next bike trip – whether in your home country or abroad.
The above are a few of all supported third-party apps and in addition, are Casio’s own native apps like the Location memory that records your travels on a map so you can review details at a glance and Moment link that lets you share messages and location information with other members of your group.
The Casio WSD-F20 is no doubt a comprehensive activity tracker, perhaps the reason for the high price.
The WSD-F20 being a great companion helps you stay connected to all that matters to you. When connected to a compatible device, it is able to alert you when there is a new notification on your phone via the vibration motor.
