It is the latest addition to the Apple watch series. Like its predecessor, it runs on Apple’s proprietary platform. Apple watch series 4 is not leaving out the companies hallmark design which has made it a worldwide hit, but yet this time they went even further delivering an artistic design that sparks class. The display is bigger now than the series 3, yet its thinner at 10.7 mm in thickness and comes in two variants, a 44mm and 40mm case respectively. It features a 1.78-inch display screen which is powered by OLED retina display with an additional LTPO technology which the company says helps in reducing battery consumption which lets you go even longer on a single charge.
The case is built for durability with stainless steel with an all ceramics-sapphire crystal back, there is another version which features an aluminum casing, while the band is made of elastomer material which comes in different sizes and can be customized to your choice.
The watch face on the series 4 is quiet more intuitive, it has a new infograph watch face that is capable of displaying up to 8 different complications. This allows you to see more at a glance.
Just like Apple watch series 3, the series 4 comes with a digital crown that was invented to help navigate the Apple Watch without obstructing the display, but this time it features a haptic feedback mechanism that delivers a precise click-like feel as you scroll.
Apple watch series 4 has lots of upgrades and features built into it, one would expect the battery life to be short compared to the series 3, but its has a slight longer battery life. It features a lithium-ion battery that is adjudged to stay up for about 18 hours, not so great, but considering the list of upgrades and features in this device, it’s quite great. You’ll need to power up every day.
Apple watch series 4 supports both mp3 and mp4 files while featuring a massive storage space of 16GB an upgrade from the series 3 which had 8GB this enables you to store your favorite tracks, videos, and other files. The series 4 has a loudspeaker, which means you can play aloud your favorite media files or alternatively listen through a Bluetooth enabled earbud.
The Apple Watch Series 4 has a 5ATM waterproof rating. It is waterproof up to 50 meters, it can be worn to the swimming pool or ocean, under the rain, in the shower, however, subjecting the series 4 watch to high pressure and force might damage it. It is also advised that you get the device dried up after getting it wet in other to get the best feel.
The screen is scratch-resistant protected with sapphire crystal glass.
Apple watch series 4 has lots of fitness tracking features built-in, it gets to do even more with an improved accelerometer, gyroscope and a new ECG technology. The ECG feature on the series 4 lets you take electrocardiogram readings by simply placing your finger on the digital crown for 30 seconds, the device then stores the resulting electrocardiogram readings in the health App which you can share with your doctor. The ECG feature on the Apple watch series 4 has FDA clearance but not approved and shouldn’t serve as an alternative or replacement to the ECG you get from a doctor, though this feature is currently limited to the United States.
The Apple Watch works in three different modes, the move mode tells how many calories you have burnt while working out, the exercise mode shows you how much of activity you have achieved and finally, the stand mode takes care of sedentary periods, reminding you to work.

There is a competition feature on the Apple watch series 4 which allows you to compete, invite your friends to a competition, it also tells you if you are ahead or behind in a competition this off course will increase your determination. There is also a prize for every accomplished fitness activity achieved.
The Apple watch series 4 is capable of notifying you when there is a notification on your iPhone, which includes;
- It notifies you when there is a missed call or an incoming call.
- It also notifies you when there is a new message on your smartphone.
- It notifies you when there is a notification from third-party applications such as Facebook, Twitter…
A version of the Apple watch series 4 has 3G cellular functionality which enables you to call, send messages right from your wrist making it a standalone smartwatch. So you can make and answer calls, there is also a walkie-talkie feature that lets you call anyone with a walkie-talkie right from the series 4. There is a loudspeaker and a microphone at adjacent positions in the series 4 which the company says improves voice calls.
The Apple Series 4 comes with a branded S4 chip, a complete Silicon in Package (SIP), which the company says is 2x faster than the S3 chip found in the series 3. AS of the time of writing this post, the actual RAM on the Apple watch series 4 is not known yet, though it’s expected that it will not be less than the 768MB RAM size of the Apple watch series 3.
The Apple watch series 4 is compatible with iPhone 5s or later and iOS 12 or later. It is not compatible with android or windows smartphones.
